Along with the bubble on the top of the hat, the outfit turns Beth into a visual representation of the white queen chess piece. "The idea, of course, is to convey that she is now the queen on the chessboard and the chessboard itself is the world," the show's costume designer Gabriele Binder said in an interview with Vogue.
