Depends where you live in Germany, and the traffic is very different.
Myself respects traffic signs if children looking.

Btw. I traveled half highway 101 with my feet on the steering wheel and a coffee in my hand. As an German you are really overqualified for US traffic,

Concern, overqualified is a good description. When I was in the US, somewhere on the highway in Nevada, I had a few almost heartattacs till I understood how things are working. And on many occasions Germany is overregulated but sometimes it makes things easier. You know every country has its pros and cons (very "philosophical", I know...).
Was great vacation in the US. I hope I have the time to Do this again.
