yes and no
I'm a truck driver.
It's correct, the mirrors could have been adjusted better.
But the boy with the ball would have "missed" anyway.
On my truck (on German roads) is a second mirror facing the right window DOWN and a mirror facing the windshield down necessary.
Even with that, I would have missed the bicycle girl with the black helmet right beside me (and the ball boy too)
You stand at a traffic light, watch the road, wait for green and a bicycle sneaks beside you aside.
If I want to go straight, I can block them by driving very close to the pedestrian walk.
But if I want to turn right, I need space to get my fat ass around the corner.
If the bicycle wants to go straight and I'm going right and we have the same green, a deadly collision is programmed.
and in Germany we have panorama mirrors under/over the normal mirrors.
Due to the ankle, you can't navigate on them, but at least, you see "there is something"

I can't wait till all truckers are replaced with automation. Let them sit and watch for safety reasons, but they should not be expected to share the road with others while their ability to see is inhibited.
Maybe then they'll stay the f@#k out of the left lane and stop clogging up traffic like entitled @$$holes.
This post started so nice and ended so badly.
The reality is that a lot of trucks don't have extra mirrors or sensors, mirrors are not always adjusted, truck drivers can't see in every place at once, or simply even just not pay attention.
In short, trucks can be dangerous. Don't assume they see you. You'll live longer.
