If you notice every one else in the room is thinking exactly what the viewer is: How f-ing stupid!

Rian, I noticed everyone in the room paying respectful attention to the ceremony, most taking videos, and not one giving any indication that the proceedings were "f-ing stupid". You're the viewer, Rian, showing contempt for other cultures. Kudos to the wedding party, for keeping their traditions alive in contrast to the insular Rians of the world.

This is called a Haka, New Zealand Maori tradition. Nobody is thinking that, Rian.

Sort of like playing the National Anthem before every freaking sporting event... just unnecessary.

salamoon,

Ever seen a haka irl? At the grocery? Laundromat?

My point is that these rituals are not performed all the time - just when respect and honor are conveyed to the intended audience (which isn't you)

Maori have very strong familial ties and their extended family is extremely important. A wedding is more than just two people getting married; it is a joining of two families to each other. The Haka is done to show honor and respect, and to mark the importance of the joining by involving the people of the families, which is why it is one of the times women could join in the traditional dance.

Thys,

Nope. Humans and chimpanzees have a common ancestor. Your understanding of evolution by natural selection is flawed.
