No other company would have done this in a similar way if Tesla wouldn't have. Although I would like a open source or at least open database for all of the self-driving and companies working together but either way will work out in the next few (!) years.
Batteries have poor performance in extremely cold climates.
battery development has just seen some years. Almost nothing was done in the past 100 years. Compare this to the combustion engine which has way over 100 years to reach almost perfection. Imagine what will be done to batteries, solar, hydrogen etc in the next 10...20...100 years.
I'm waiting for better batteries. In colder climates, when a heater is used in an electric vehicle for passenger comfort, the range of an electric vehicle is about 60% of the advertised range.
That's with new batteries. As the batteries get older, the range decreases.
I'd assume that using the AC would also have an effect on range.
