I think this is about that traumatic experiences can still be something you live through often. And yes, obviously that is normal. We are hardwired to remember things like that. You don't remember the hunderds of times you drove on the freeway. You will remember the one time you saw a car flip over and almost hit you though.

And if you relive a painful memory and can learn to accept it happened and put it in perspective, you can get over the trauma.

Some parents actually don't/didn't know any better so it is easier to forgive than to be angry about them. Or to think it is the parents fault. Parents had parents too. And, parents may did grow up in difficult situations too. The root is mostly way before the parents. Sometimes the grandparents.
