You can start with Mark Weiser's study in Israel "Cognitive test scores in male adolescent cigarette smokers compared to non-smokers: a population-based study", which is one of the most known ones because of the size of the sample. They have repeated this in different countries and cultures, with the same result in each population: the lower the IQ, the higher the proportion of smokers and the more they smoke. It also makes sense that someone with some form of cognitive impairment is more likely to make such a poor choice for themselves.
