Had a shell bounce into my shoe once (didn't wear socks). Took out clip, got the bullet out of the chamber, laid the handgun down with the action slide up so that everyone could see there was no bullet in the chamber and took a step back. And then I jumped around like crazy to get the shell out of my shoe. To think, I could have just kicked off my shoe with a loaded gun in my hand...
Not sure why this is getting down votes, it's a good example of what to actually do. As opposed to the fucking idiot waving his pistol around, and discharging it behind him. The range warden should have been all over that clown.

Unless the handgun was a revolver (in which case there was no need to remove the unfired cartridge from the chamber) you removed the magazine not a clip.
