Not Australia. We drive on the left and only have snow at higher elevation where there are no railways.

Winnet, well actually - no they cannot. They need lot's of help when climbing even low angles. They put sand on the tracks etc. if instant help is required because of rain or snow but on higher angles they use a cog railroad (rack-and-pinion railway).

Great idea for the barrier but I would worry it could pop up when your are half way across it. More so if it was automatic like the cross bar.
