When I was a kid we had a black cat on our farm. He was an outdoor cat - he didn't want to be inside - he preferred to roam around our barns and our neighbors barns. He was such a sweet heart to us humans but both of his ears were cut in half from fighting with other cats. Loved that cat.
There are 22 different breeds of cats that can have solid black coats, with the most popular being the Bombay breed, which is copper-eyed and shorthaired.
