In the US, they've corrupted the system of government. Due to their influence it's now legal to secretly bribe elected officials (dark money to PACs) and they do so with abandon. Due to this, the top 1% now control more assets than the entire middle class (as of maybe 2019?). And the trend is accelerating. No moral judgement on my part, since it's just numbers and pretty much everyone is as greedy as they can get away with, rich and poor. But it's not sustainable.
In the US, they've corrupted the system of government. Due to their influence it's now legal to secretly bribe elected officials (dark money to PACs) and they do so with abandon. Due to this, the top 1% now control more assets than the entire middle class (as of maybe 2019?). And the trend is accelerating. No moral judgement on my part, since it's just numbers and pretty much everyone is as greedy as they can get away with, rich and poor. But it's not sustainable.

Much of this improvement has happened under capitalism, but much of it under other economic forms as well. Capitalism simply maximizes profits. That maximization can have positive outcomes on the common good, but it can just as well be negative.
