No, asking someone if they are happy is asking if they are happy. Americans are nosy and always seem to be competing. The inquiries aren't usually to find out about YOU, but an opportunity to boast about themselves. True story. I am a US citizen BTW.
Confession through projection. If you think people are competing, it's because you are.
I ask people how their life and careers are going because their well-being matters, their success matters.
If you could ask a person every second of every day if they were happy (without affecting the results) you would find they aren't. They are frustrated by part of their job, or spouse, or kids. But if you were to ask them how they feel in general about those things, they are likely to be positive because those are things they value and feel rewarded by.
yeah basically. but nobody asks that question because it's intrusive OR will open up a whole bag of worms that you really don't care about. these people will drag you down to their level and make you miserable. Sure people like Heath and Kurt did some cook tricks, but they got what they deserved.
Yeah, it is, but if you're entire world is focused in on yourself you don't pay attention to things like that.

Not to mention "screw your freedoms", the same freedoms he was afforded to make a successful career.
It's a mixed bag. On one hand you have the fact that most guys are not a threat, and that the internet stories like this have greatly amplified those that are. On the other, almost every man who would take such actions is an insurmountable risk to the woman he would target. Also add that modern society has encouraged a level of public passiveness that can (and has) overlook that behavior.
I think of it like firearms. I'm pro-2A & open carry, but if you are the only other person I see with a holster I will be cautious because you are the most obvious threat. If 60% of the people around us are carrying, I no longer care that you are. You are not a sole threat, and there are enough others to act as a potential control on you.
