Persephone, He held the towline because it probably needed the tension to stay put. They should have had someone in the car to hit the brakes.

Persephone, for towing you first need to carefully establish tension on the rope. lots of vids on the net show what happens otherwise. only problem, a human is two orders of magnitude too weak for the forces at play there.
