No. That has nothing to do with family just is the regular work culture in SOME fields mainly offices.
And it's what you're used to. For example, the work culture in America is very bad compared to many European countries but most Americans would say it's normal.
For example, in my country and at my job I can take about a monthe and a half of days for vacation or other free days and as I understand it, it's far more than most American jobs.
That being said, the whole work yourself crazy for your company culture is slowly changing over there.
