In 2000 there was a short-lived TV series called The Others. (You can look it up on Wikipedia or IMDb.) When the show was cancelled before the second season, they ended the series by blowing up and burning the building where the characters all gathered and met, while those characters were in the building.
The end. Go away now. Not coming back. Move along. Nothing to see here.

That's why I like Vince Gilligan. He knows how to end a show before it gets bad. I wish I could cite another example of a show writer that does that, but I can't think of one...

#2 the last season was good. you just didn't like that the mom was basically written off due to other obligations and they went from wealthy wasps... to all Republicans.

Ending a good television series is never easy... writers never know what to do because they don't want it to end, so wrapping up the loose ends and story plots either becomes epic or they just give up.
