That's acceptable. The irony however, is that I hear more English-speaking Americans make that mistake, than those born anywhere else. But, the all-time champion of grammatical 'cringe' is the dreaded...'irregardless.'

I can relate to that, especially with their and they're. It is mind blowing to see a native speaker to have a problem with this.
The American/English dialect is riddled with confusion compared to other languages. You brought up probably the most perplexing to those learning English. Their, There, They're. We have homonyms and heteronyms. Very few, if any, other languages have them.
