Farscape Warehouse 13 The River Star Trek, all of them Primeval Merlin Killjoys Battlestar Galactica all of them Defiance Space Above and Beyond Dark Matter Continuum Colony Falling Skies
Gus, Wow -- you mentioned Space Above and Beyond!! I loved that show but nobody I know remembers it. I was pretty bummed when the show got cancelled after one season. (I agree with the rest of your choices, too.)
Gus, Do you remember a show called The Others, about a group of paranormals who solved crimes and helped people who couldn't otherwise prevail against their attackers? When the show got canceled the show-runners blew up the building that The Others used as their headquarters, while they were in it, and the episode faded to black as the building burned. You knew that nobody could have survived that. Thanks for watching, loyal audience!
#11 And Hogan's Heroes! Very funny show. I always wondered how the creator pitched this show: "It's a comedy set in a Nazi prison camp... now hear me out."

I'd also suggest "The Americans". I like spy shows and Keri Russell, so that was a favourite.
I'd add Maniac and Californication

Unfortunately, too many shows finished too early or finished with unresolved cliffhangers.

Yes at least some of the creators have enough respect for their loyal audiences and fans to end things properly, some do not.
Quite possibly the best Sci-Fi series ever to grace television.
