I'd move on to another job if I were being treated this way. That said, I've worked with a lot of the people who made some of these rules necessary. Additionally, have you ever been to a market where the checker and the bagger never acknowledge your existence the entire time you're checking out, and the checker points to the total rather than telling you what it is while he or she continues to talk to the bagger, and then slams your change down on the counter and doesn't tell you how much you're getting back or thank you for shopping there? None of these behaviors will actually harm you, but they sure let you know that the store doesn't care whether you shop there or not.
