Having worked at a mall in the late 90's these were both absolutely true, though the Hot Topic people and the Sears people (my mall didn't have a Kohl's) didn't usually sit together just nearby...

Here have a toothpaste tube of probably toxic chemicals and try to blow bubbles with this straw that was stuck to the outside. (I'm still amazed we didn't all get poisoned more often)
