Carole, the claim isn't unsubstantiated - a University of Minnesota Heart Disease Prevention Clinic study concluded that soluble fiber from whole oats can lower LDL cholesterol by an average of 4 percent in six weeks.

#9 This means they haven't been tested and substantiated by Japanese scientists, not that they've never been substantiated anywhere else. If it was a false claim in the US, I guarantee there would've been a law suit by now. These days Americans are just itching for someone to sue.
