On the one hand he is right, on the other hand he is not. At least here in Germany, racing cyclists in particular often ignore bike lanes that are only a few meters away from the road and the easily avoidable obstruction of the rest of the traffic. This also makes me very angry. Also, there are often gravel paths as alternative routes, so that this conflict would often not have to arise. On the other hand, the network of bike paths in Germany is very poorly developed, so that people sometimes have no other choice. Currently, people are changing the use of existing roads in many areas and painting bike lanes on roads that were never designed for them. But the roads are not getting any wider as a result. These are very short-sighted approaches. If everyone would adapt to the circumstances and not push such ego trips, it would probably be a bit more pleasant for everyone. In the long term, of course, these age-old planning errors should be countered. But you would have to go a bit further than just redrawing a few lines. It's just not always as easy as it is often made out to be.
