If the idea behind being a vegetarian is to stop the meat-industry and the terrible conditions cows etc live in, then fish is a better alternative.
They consider it vegetarian because catholicism says fish are not meat, a historic move to increase fish sales... but people only belive that if they are willing to belive ANYTHING a cult says.
