Simple: The Dad loves him and he loves his dad. I did the same when I was a wee lad, learning stuff like that from my dad. Look at his thump pressing on the side board whilst bending over that concrete. Typical Dad move.

The thing is what we consider children nowadays used to be considered old enough to take on responsibilities. It is only the parents that have expanded the age of what is considered a child nowadays. Consider how many 20 somethings for some reason do not know how to do laundry or how many do not know fix simple things.
