Interesting but without some explanation I have no idea what’s happening. A spacecraft entering the atmosphere with a fire behind it - is this normal?

Its not fire. Its super heated particles from the outer atmosphere. One could call it plasma.

I guess those are the currents, the vortex's shapes left behind by the the drag, friction, of the vehicle, when one takes place it offer less resistance to the rest, a flow, and therefore tends to stay in that shape for a while longer.
