I'd be ok if a modest discount was offered for using self-checkout, but when a store don't have enough attended checkouts and there is a backup of slow or puzzled customers struggling with self-checkout I vote with my feet and leave my intended purchases for the store to restock due to their lack of available service.
#17 A two-wheel drive motorcycle that was popular with prospectors in mountainous regions of the American southwest back in the day. I have a neighbor that drives one with a sidecar all winter around our northern Canadian town all winter. Its a big hit the townsfolk!

Delpha, all true, but you all miss the point. This is not about the pro and cons of using self-checkouts. It's abaout people using it and then steal from the store. This is about dishonesty and should raise the question why people do this to an extend, that the self-checkout had to be closed.

just because YOU don't like them doesn't meen that applies to everybody.
I like self checkouts because I don't have to interact with anyone, I don't get asked if I participate in this or that payback programme and on top of that I'm usually WAY quicker than even a register with a cashier.

#39 I'm sorry, asbestos can be filtered with a proper fiberglassing mask and microparticle flimsy suit, and can be washed away... Chernobyl is RADIATION particles that can send waves through both and kill you silently over time. So, not safe, but NOT comparable.
