I'd be ok if a modest discount was offered for using self-checkout, but when a store don't have enough attended checkouts and there is a backup of slow or puzzled customers struggling with self-checkout I vote with my feet and leave my intended purchases for the store to restock due to their lack of available service.

if a self checkout allows me to avoid standing in queue I'll use it everytime to get out faster.
Apparently there are 35 towns with food in their names, including: Pie Town, New Mexico; Hot Coffee, Mississippi; and Ding Dong, Texas ...but no Doughnut / Donut. D'OH!
just because YOU don't like them doesn't meen that applies to everybody.
I like self checkouts because I don't have to interact with anyone, I don't get asked if I participate in this or that payback programme and on top of that I'm usually WAY quicker than even a register with a cashier.
