This was the early days of flying the spaceshuttle. They built computers into the spacecraft, with iron ferrite memory (where the word hard drive came from), by the time they were ready to fly, they didn't bother using them, as the Grid laptop you see in the video was more powerful, and that's what they used to compute orbits and trajectories on board.
