Well, its basically the same trick repeated in different nuances. (Left hand pinky goes down/out of sight + right hand ring finger gets down to appear as left hand finger)

Emotional hyperbole. These vapid television shows attract the dumbest most superficial kinds of people. Usually, the type of people who pretend to be outraged at everything. Everything has to be met with openly displayed acts of exasperation and exaggerated fake emoting.
