On Thursday, New Zealand's Parliament began voting on a bill aimed at rethinking the principles of the treaty that has governed relations with the Māori since 1840. This initiative essentially undermines their rights and has sparked protests both publicly and behind the scenes.

The NZ parliament paused debate on the bill and voted to suspend MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke owing to unbecoming and disrespectful behaviour, inappropriate to the house. Democracy prevailed over outmoded attempts to intimidate the people's representatives. Try that on with the Te Kaunihera Maori o Aoteaora and see how far you get.

It's nice to see tribal traditions being practiced these days. Politics are more entertaining when people are themselves. I mean I've seen politics wilder than that lately in other parts of the world.
