This is NOT a bully activity any more than dancing is about giving your soul to the devil. It's a traditional display, and yes it's purpose is to show strength and intimidate, but in a socially recognized and accepted manner.

Yes I understand it is the national thing and unique, which is why it is celebrated. The thing is it might have intimidated in the 1100s. The Zulus, which were more numerous and arguably better soldiers than the Maori, still lost 5 warriors for every Rifle armed Redcoat. Yeah, as a retired Infantryman, a guy dancing around ain't intimidating.
