Berry,

you should, if you are US American:

The tariffs for steel and aluminium are set up.

That means, that every bearing, that's made of steel will be 25% more expensive for the US citizens.

There will come a time, when you will run out of spare parts and have to learn to repair.

Eleazer,

just doing a quick example:

Imagine, I would sell steel here in Germany.

A friendly neighbour walks by and buys a bearing for 100,-
Thanks, have a nice day.

Either an Italian, Chinese and a Japanese company are asking for the price for one bearing:
Well, I should have 84,- plus the VAT (possibly, you get it back in your country) plus the transport.
That might be something between 110,- and 125,- for the buyer

An american company asks now for the price:
Well, I should have 84,- plus the VAT (possibly, you get it back in your country) plus the transport plus 25% tariff.
let's say, the price with shipping would have been 150,- . That means, that the US customs will take 38,50 tarriff.
Your new price is 188,50

that's called forward calculation.

I don't have to lower my price because all the other countries in the world are asking to buy my bearings for the worthy price.
The US citicens won't get it cheaper, because the tariffs are added for every import from every nation.

Rea, You have the math right. You just don’t understand the larger picture. The greater scheme, if you will. That’s where the Economists come in.

Eleazer,

depending, whom you ask, the US have been importing ca. 20 - 25% of their steel.
The US American 75 - 80% might become more expensive, either because there will be higher demands, either mining companies can reactivate iron mines, that were too ineffective in the past.
A lot of cheap workers (immigrants) will be thrown out of the country.
Probably, the steel companies will have to increase the wages.

There is no economical way, that american steel won't become more expensive.
