yes, that's common knowledge but i would say its individual, just like with people.
my older dog, at the time, ate it from my garden for years... munching on it while lying under it in the grass. i think he would not do it if it would hurt him. my younger dog, at the time, wouldnt really touch them. however, better be careful of course.
