As an avid and serious mountaineer, my attraction to climbing tall peaks was for the exercise, the challenge, but above all...to get away from society, if just for a little while. Of course, I've fantasized climbing Everest. But, aside from the cost-prohibitiveness, I can't imagine trudging up such a noble peak with hundreds of people in front of me in a long cue. Most of whom are probably thinking they've made a huge mistake.
