#10 - The danish queen Margrethe 2 was elected indirectly too. When it was clear that the danish King were not able to have a son around 1950, the throne had by then have to go to a cousin of the king when he passed, as only males could become ruler. By popular vote in 1953, the laws on this was changed so females could become ruler. As Margrete by then was the eldest daughter of the king, it was clear that she would become ruler and she was indirectly elected for that.... She became ruling queen in 1972 and stepped down in 2024 after beeing a very popular ruler for 52 years.....
