This is one of the highest railways in the world. It connects Xining, Qinghai Province, to Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, in China. The total length of Qingzang railway is 1956 km. Construction of the 815 km section between Xining and Golmud was completed by 1984.
This railway is the first to connect China proper with the Tibet Autonomous Region, which, due to its altitude and terrain, is the last province-level entity in mainland China to have a conventional railway.
More than 960 km, or over 80% of the Golmud-Lhasa section, is at an altitude of more than 4,000 m.
The 1,142-km Qinghai–Tibet railway from Golmud to Lhasa was completed on 12 October 2005. It opened to regular trial service on 1 July 2006.
The trains are specially built for high altitude environment. From October 2006 five pairs of passenger trains run between Golmud and Lhasa, and one more pair between Xining and Golmud. The line has a capacity of eight pairs of passenger trains, and the carriages are specially built and have an oxygen supply for each passenger.

Impressive!
America Online (AOL) proposed its readers to view the best pictures (to their taste) of astrophotography of 2009.
It is the beauty that dazzles, I highly recommend you to take a look at it ;)
These special Chinese eggs are black inside with a greenish tint and look as if they were found during the excavations of an ancient Chinese city.
That’s what thought foreigners first arrived in China, that it were simply stale eggs, and called them "Century eggs" (or hundred-year egg, thousand-year egg).
They are usually marinated in a special way for a few weeks or even months, which gives an unpleasant odor (the scent is similar to the smell of ammonia).
But they say that when the eggs are fully prepared, they are incredibly tasty.
Well, would anyone like to try this Chinese delicacy? Don’t hurry with your answer, look at the pictures first ))
The Climate Change Conference on Copenhagen ended Saturday and once again, no real solutions to global warming came up…
Here is why ))
A guy robbed a small computer store the other day but the way he did it was more than pathetic.
He didn’t even bother to unplug any cords, so he had to struggle to get the monitors free and he nearly fell over tables… what a mess he left behind!
The cost of the damages to the building is more important than the cost of what he stole - he took for $6,000 of Apple products but the owner says damages to the building are probably around $10,000!
And last thing, police officers might be able to zoom in on the license plate of the truck…
If he wanted to imitate those thieves who cleaned out an Apple store in 30 seconds, then he failed big time!
If you don’t have money to buy a Christmas tree or didn’t have time to do it or just like paper craft, here’s what you can do.
This paper Christmas tree will take you some time to be done. But at the end, with all paint and decorations it can be very cute.
Here they are, restless little cute things in the magnificent works by Achim Lippoth.
Very positive and mood rising, so go inside the post to see ))
I have to admit that it looks quite beautiful.
But still, it gives chills when I see all these snakes ;)
Here is what the description says: “Battle Mug starts as a 13.5 pound solid block of 6061 T6 billet aluminium before it enters a state of the art CNC facility which produces specialized parts and equipment for the U.S. Department of Defense, major weapons manufacturers, NASA…etc. Built to military specifications, Battle Mug features a M1913 rail interface system which allows the operator to mount a standard issue M4 carry handle, tactical light, laser device...” Each unit costs $279.

The New Year is a holiday where sometimes people cover big distances to meet with family, friends to celebrate it together.
Wherever you live, you can buy a ticket on a train, plane, ship and to get to your destination.
Anywhere, but not in China.
In this country, to get on the train (the most accessible means of transport) in January will be very problematic, even if you have a ticket.
After seeing the photos you will understand what that means.
You can easily lose small objects like cell phones or cameras in any place at any time and there’s almost nothing you can do about it. But you can do something for people who find it.
A guy has created a ‘pictoral guide to avoiding camera loss’.
It’s brilliant, first because it’s funny, secondly because it’s kinda clever.
Discover his method after the jump..
It looks like a children’s book but it’s actually an ad for Beate Uhse – a German adult TV channel!
Kids won’t see it, but you will, that’s for sure ))
The pictures of this incredible plane replica was sent us by our visitor Tim Hawkins. Thanks a lot Tim :)
This model airplane of a P-51D Mustang was built by Young C Park, from Honolulu, who is a retired dentist and used some of his instruments to build it. To accomplish this task, he spent 6,000 hours during three years on it.
It is built on a 1/16 scale and what is amazing is that every part is fully functional!!!
Hats off to the creator!
Here is another great photomontage ;)
Let's see what actually surrounds us!
All the geeks and nerds unite!!! :)
Here are some interesting and geeky decorations for you. There is also some stuff for geeky girls too ;)
Or if you have some friends or relatives who are geeks, it could be an extra present for them this Christmas :)
The Gathering of the Juggalos is an annual event described by its founder as a "Juggalo Woodstock". It spans four days, and includes concerts, wrestling, games, contests, autograph sessions, and seminars with artists.
This year was the tenth edition of this festival, like the two previous editions, it occurred in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois.
This is a ‘photo journey’ showing you people who were at this event.
Beggars usually just ask for money and write on cardboards that they need money to eat, but those ones thought it would be maybe a better idea to make people laugh whether by being honest or by writing stupid stuff.
I think those funny begging methods are a better way to drive people to give you money than the classic methods.. you see.
Very artistic, creative and original.
Gotta try to do something like this :)
