To find out, creative agency M&C Saatchi has partnered with the renowned British photographer Rankin and MTArt Agency. As part of VISUAL DIET, a campaign that explores the impact of imagery on mental health, they asked a group of teens to polish their selfies for social media. They weren’t casting people that used these apps, but found teenagers and asked them to try them out to create their perfect selfies. The results are unsettling, to say the least.
“My mom painted this and said no one would like it. It’s her 2nd painting” was the caption of the initial painting which was posted on Reddit. Then another user “painted somebody’s mom”, and it went downhill from there…
