Zhongdong Miao Village is situated in the mountains of Anshun in the Guizhou province of southwest China. The village is situated inside the cave at 1800 meters (almost 6000 ft) above sea level and has about 100 dwellers. The villagers built roofless houses, schools and a basketball court there. It is warm in winter, cool in summer and dry all year long. The community used to have a high school as well, but the Chinese government closed the school in early 2011. Now, the closest school is a two-hour walk there and back.
