The Jumping Frog Jubilee is an essential part of the annual fair in Calaveras County, California. Its history dates back to 1928 when the first contest was held, based on the story theme from Mark Twain’s novel “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Cavaleras County”. Nowadays, the contesting teams come from all over the state to engage into a funny competition of making the frog jump as far as possible, usually by shouting at it.

Going back to the early 20th century Glass Beach, near Fort Bragg and now part of MacKerricher State Park, was used as a dumping ground for glass and other refuse. Decades later the beach is covered with gorgeous multi-colored glass, smoothed by the ocean.

The second you step foot in California’s Yellowstone National Park you will be amazed by the natural beauty. These pictures barely do it justice, but do show how many different kinds of landscapes there are to see.
This is Redondo Beach California, Kings Harbor where, on the morning of March 8th, millions of dead Anchovies were found. They literally clogged parts of the harbor. The dead Anchovies weren’t just on the surface, they were many feet deep.
You think there is nothing, however it is right in front of you.
Remember the post of yesterday about Jenny, a girl who quitted her job in a creative, original and daring way?
Well, as some of you mentioned it in the comments, it was nothing but another Internet hoax.
As entertaining as it was, nothing was true, the girl is just a Californian actress (at least, that's what she says..) named Elyse Porterfield.
I’ll let you discover more pics of her and her explanations in the following…
An unusual gathering of cosplayers was noticed at Craig Regional Park in Fullerton (California). You will see hot girls, bright costumes and funny characters after the jump.
If you ever hiked across the slopes of California’s Sierra Nevada in summer, you have surely noticed that the snow here, at altitudes of 10,000 to 12,000 feet, is very unique. For hundreds of years scientists from all over the world couldn’t solve the mystery of “watermelon snow”.
The first accounts of watermelon snow are in the writings of Aristotle. Would you like to know why the snow is pink? The answer is right after the jump.
After the little kitten hidden in a police car bumper, this time it is a baby seal that was stuck under a police car in Ocean Beach, California. He got out from the ocean, crawled for 50-60 yards on the grass area and got on the road. The police car that was passing by, stopped in the middle of the road so that any car couldn’t run the baby seal over. When the police car stopped, the animal got under it and had a nap for almost 4 hours.
Then the ‘Sea World Marine Animal Rescue’ team was called, they took out the baby seal and took him into the Sea World for 4-6 weeks until he gains a normal weight and force. Then they will free him into the wild.
Another “animal” happy ending :)))
While looking at these pictures I wanted to drop everything and to find myself in the place of those lucky tourists.
This must be an unforgettable experience: flying in an airship, seeing fabulous bird's eye view Californian landscapes.
One word – fantastic!
Alan Sailer, 54, is a photographer based in California. He is an expert in high-speed photography. You can see a lot of high-speed photography now on the Internet, but I must say this series is by far my favorite, it’s very colorful and the shots are just amazing.
Take a look at this big series, it is worth it.
The Crystal Cathedral is a Protestant Christian megachurch in the city of Garden Grove, in Orange County, California, United States. The main sanctuary building was constructed using over 10,000 rectangular panes of glass and can hold 2,900 worshippers. Construction on the Crystal Cathedral began in 1977 and ended in 1980. The initial estimated cost of the church was $6 million, but the final cost was over $17 million (about $55 million in 2007 dollars).
All these houses are located relatively close to each other, near a well known place in the state of California, Hollywood Hills.
The prices of these beautiful houses are from $5 million and more, but they worth it. Ah, I would love a house like that! ;)
A guy was invited by his friends to stay with them in California. The thing that struck him most was the house garage.
And it's easy to understand since there was a collection of such supercars as: 2 Challenge Stradale, Murcielago, Carrera GT, and F40.
A real dream garage, I think many people would wish to have one like this ;)
What you are going to see is how Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant was transformed into a rural area. During the WW II, to protect the plant from a Japanese air attack, they covered it with big camouflage netting, creating the largest trompe l'oeil ever.
