Uncanny Factoid: Bulletproofing Mexico a Car at a Time

Posted in PICTURES       15 Nov 2010       5091

It is sad, but true that Mexicans now feel they need a bullet proof car to drive the streets. They feel it is a necessity and not a luxury. These cars sell for an average price of $80,000 dollars. What type of car gets armored?  It is a wide variety including small SUVs, pickups, Hondas, and others. Business is booming and it is estimated that if you purchased a car today you wouldn’t get it until February.

Beautiful caves with giant crystals were found by cavers in Mexico. Two amazing chambers of crystals known as The Cave of Crystals and The Cave of Swords are about 1000 feet down in the limestone host rock of the Naica Mine. This is a real world wonder that reminds of a dreamlike crystal palace.

Fighting Cartels (30 pics)

This is what was found by a border patrol near the Texan-Mexico border. Apparently, this belonged to Los Zetas, a Mexican cartel with Guatemalan ties in the city of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico some 100 miles away from Laredo, TX.

Well, there are enough weapons to provide a small army…

Mexican Amusement Park for Children (18 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       24 May 2010       13544

While all these mechanical amusements seem to work, they don’t give much of a safety feeling and look quite dangerous, especially those little roller coasters. I would think twice before taking a ride there.  Two words: poor children.

Island of Dolls in Mexico (17 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       29 Mar 2010       10767
This Mexico’s island is called La Isla de las Munecas in Spanish. Its story is rather curious. People say that a girl drowned here, and since then the island was known as a haunted spot. Outsider Julian Santana decided to live here to honor the child spirit with dolls. Santana dies in 2001, however, thousands of discarded dolls he brought to the island as an offering are still there.

Drug Money. $205 million in cash! (12 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       21 Oct 2009       75201

Have you ever seen such a big sum in one place? No? Here it is.
Every one knows that drug traffickers have the most luxurious and the most expensive houses in the world with exotic private zoos etc..
One of the Mexican drug leaders, native of China who gained Mexican citizenship, had all this money at his house. He fled before the police came into his house in one of Mexico City’s wealthiest neighborhoods and found this pile of money that was hidden inside walls, suitcases and closets.
All the money came from the profits of methamphetamines sold in the United States.
It was estimated that major narco-traffickers were now US $205 million poorer.

The Mexico - United States barrier (33 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       9 Oct 2009       27551
The border's total length is 3,169 km (1,969 miles) and it is the most frequently crossed international border in the world, with about 250 million people crossings every year.
The border wall or border fence consists of several separation barriers designed to prevent illegal movement across the Mexico – United States border. The barriers were built to taper transportation of illegal drugs manufactured in Latin America and illegal immigration. The barriers are strategically placed to mitigate the flow of illegal border crossings along the Mexico – United States international border into the Southwestern United States.
Here is a collection of photos of the border, the wall, the barriers and everything you can watch everyday over there.

Children living in prisons (12 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       24 Sep 2009       11411
This is the female penitentiary Santa Martha Acatitla in Mexico D.F.
About 50 children live together with their imprisoned mothers. Normally, the children are taken away when they turn 6. Sometimes the penitentiary reminds a school with children running around. But when children are not present, some serious clashes can appear between inmates.
From one hand, it is a good thing that children stay with their mothers, it helps them to get to know them but from the other hand, prison is not a place for a child and as for me, 6 years of life is too long for a baby.

The Crystal Cave of Giants – as beautiful as it is dangerous (27 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       11 Sep 2009       17991
Cueva de los Cristales (Cave of the Crystals) is a cave of the Naica Mine in Chihuahua, Mexico. The chamber contains giant selenite crystals, some of the largest natural crystals ever found. The cave's largest crystal is 11 m (36 ft) in length, 4 m (13 ft) in diameter and 55 tons in weight. The cave is about 30 m (98 ft) in length, 10 m (33 ft) in width and almost 300 meters (900 feet) below the surface of the Earth. It is extremely hot in the cave with air temperatures reaching up to 43 °C (109 °F) with 90 to 100 percent humidity. The hot temperature is due to the proximity of a magma chamber.
The cave is relatively unexplored because humans can only survive for approximately ten minutes without proper protection and only 45 with special equipment. Add to that the risk of falling into deep pits, ending impaled on a sharp crystal…
Take a look at one of the most extreme places on the planet.

To transfer drugs across the Mexican border, the system of tunnels has become very common. And they are all well equipped.
A few statistics: from 2001, more than hundreds of these tunnels were found along the U.S. –Mexican border. It’s impressive what mafia can do to reach its goals!
