The road you’ll see in the pictures lies between two Russian Northern cities: Ukhta and Naryan-Mar. And there’s a single road between these two cities. It can’t even be called a "road", it’s a joke. But truck drivers don’t have another choice.
The funny thing is that Ukhta is an important industrial city with plenty oil wells and as we know, oil=money. What’s funny is that oil companies are too greedy to give money to build a good road, plus it’s in their interests…
Now let’s look at this infamous road.
On May 28, is celebrated an official Russian holiday: the Day of the Border Guards.
Both former border guards and active service celebrate it across the country. In Moscow, it is often celebrated in Gorky Park.
In May, the usually quite high temperatures in Russia allow border guards to swim in ponds and fountains. It is also normal for brawls to appear during the celebration as much vodka is involved.
In Russia, 'VIP' people and government representatives drive cars with strobe lights ignoring all traffic rules and not paying attention to simple drivers, which causes a mass wave of discontent in the country. People who are fed up with it, mostly drivers that should often bare these 'VIPs', make protests from time to time.
Here’s one man who expressed his discontent in an unusual but rather creative way :)
This unusual action was held in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. And the Golden Award goes to…
Moscow train called “Aquarelle” transports works of art from the famous Russian museum once a year in the Moscow subway.
The museum staff selected the paintings from its world famous collection. Their 35 high-quality reproductions will be placed inside the ‘art gallery train’ and the passengers will be able to see the famous paintings of the great Russian, Italian, German and British masters.
This is the third exhibition held in the "Aquarelle" train.
I think the idea is very good and it seems that Muscovites appreciate it a lot.
Take a look at what amazing things can be created from colorful paper. Everything you will see inside this post is designed by Russian creative studio People Too. You will understand that paper craft requires a lot of time and patience, but it’s worth it!
You think this little shabby house has nothing extraordinary? Well, you need to check out how it looks inside.
This small island looks really cute. It is located in the middle of Artist’s Lake in Krasnoyarsk, Russian Siberia. It would be cool to visit this nice place in the summer.
When Russians stop using old buildings, they often leave them abandoned without demolishing. Take a look at these empty fire station and medical school. They look like places from Silent Hill movie…
I don’t know who did these comparisons but some of them are really funny.
Russian parents went on vacation and left their 16-year-old son at home alone. When they came back home, they saw their apartment just like this :)
Very often Russians park their cars in garage blocks that are sometimes located far from their houses and are built in lines. Well, this tradition has lead to a real spring “car” flood in Moscow. Some unknown company was installing a heating system not far from a block of garages, and afterwards two water wells “mysteriously” disappeared. Guess what? Over 150 car garages were flooded!
Would you like to get more milk from your cows? Some Russians come up with crazy ideas. Inside this post you can find a unique project that is supposed to help cows give more milk. I don’t know if it works or not, but the idea is truly bizarre!
This flying-sailing “monster” was built by Russians in the former USSR. At those times Russians seemed to know how to make water planes look like huge iron “pterosaurs”. I wonder how safe this tank-ship-bird must have been. See more pictures after the break.
This is an apartment of a single guy who did such a mess in just 3 days…
I just let the pictures speak…
Remember the female mouse from the 70’s cartoon series Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers? Well, apparently she is very popular in Russia where she has a fan club of her own. Members of this club go to great extremes to put her picture up all over town.
These photos represent the largely unrewarded work that is done each day at a weather station under some of the most difficult situations imaginable. The weather in Russia in the winter is certainly no picnic especially at 7,000 feet above sea level.
On a closer look, the massive structure you see may seem like a giant iceberg. Actually, it is a destroyed Sayano-Shushenskaya power plant situated in Siberia. Last year the transformer explosion caused huge flooding and human casualties in this plant.
The plant restoration may take more than four years. Without this plant, the area can just freeze out.
An interesting photo essay from Russia's mining town of Prokopyevsk awaits you after the jump.
Looking at the pictures, it seems that the city became extinct, but when it's -42 ° C it's not so easy to have a walk.
If you breathe deeply, you will really feel the pain in the lungs, which will freeze as well as your nose.
Imagine, if you open the window for 5 minutes, you won’t be able to close it because it will be covered with ice.
You will be able start a car only if it is parked in a heated garage and even this doesn’t help every time...
In many complex building they use coal. How do you like such living conditions?
A huge respect to a photographer who suffered a lot from the cold while doing this report, because after 15 minutes on the street, the camera freezes from inside and it stops working.
Now look at photos of the city and its industrial facilities.
In some Russian villages, they go to places called ‘banya’ which are in fact nothing more than saunas. As not everybody can go to those places, one man got the idea to make a mobile ‘banya’. He made a little wooden house that he equipped to make a sauna and that he mounted on an old tractor. Now the villagers just have to call for the mobile sauna house to come to their place. We can’t stop progress..
Yep, the robbers weren’t subtle at all with this poor machine… ;)
They just cut it and took all the money. On the first picture, on the left of the ATM you can see empty cashboxes.
Such an amusing calendar was released by one Russian company.
I have only one question: what did the author take or smoke?
It’s difficult to draw something like this when you’re not high
Photos from one intersection in Voronezh, Russia.
Impressive!
There are such facilities in Russia, where all intoxicated people, found sleeping on the streets, are brought there. They can spend one night to become sober under medical control and all of it is free of charge.
To be honest, quite a scary place, looks more like a prison.
Take a look at the pictures.
Body Revolution is a very popular competition in Russia and which aim is to get your body back in shape in only 10 weeks.
So, let’s see the winners of the two previous years and also ‘before/after’ pics of the 2009 edition.
