Every year, a lucky 175,000 people spend several hundred pounds going to The Greatest Festival in the World, while millions enviously tune in to watch the BBC coverage from the comfort of their warm, dry sofas.

Wasteland Weekend’s theme draws heavily from apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, especially the Mad Max franchise and is held annually in California City, California. It is a full immersion event, so all the participants are required to wear appropriately themed clothing. Take a look at the pictures, they speak for themselves.

Oktoberfest is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October. More than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year.

La Tomatina is a festival held in the Valencian town of Bunol, Spain where participants throw tomatoes and get involved in this tomato fight just for entertainment. The festival was launched in 1945 and has been held on the last Wednesday of August. This year around 22,000 people were participating in this gigantic tomato throwing fight. Well, it sure looks fun.

The Woodstock Festival took place in an dairy farm in New York state and was scheduled over three days but ran over four days in August of 1969. It attracted over 400,000 people and such music legends as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who and others played there through the rain or sun. And the atmosphere there was really special. Happily, these photos were taken by two LIFE photographers Bill Eppridge and John Dominis who were present at the Woodstock music festival to capture the essence of the 60s and what was going on there.
 

Last Friday, August 12, 2016, the first ever beer festival kicked off in Pyongyang, North Korea which will last 20 days. 800 people visited the event on its first day. It was organized to promote Pyongyang's home brewed Taedonggang beer. Apparently, Kim Jong-un decided to arrange his personal Oktoberfest.

Even though it is not a cosplay or LARP event, everyone is asked to come fully equipped in both post-apocalyptic gear and attitude... The festival kicked off in 2010 and is now considered to be the largest post apocalyptic festival in the world.

The festival inspired by Mad Max film takes place over four days in southern California in the middle of the Mojave Desert and it is quite a sight to behold.

The annual festival was held in the Nevada desert this year and over 70 000 people gather from around the world to enjoy music, art and an eclectic mix of unique people.
