Lower the boom and run over its own cable? Drop the outriggers to the ground? Maybe put it in gear??

Might have to be on the outside to drop the outriggers depending on the model. Putting it in gear would then put it under power which would be more dangerous and if memory serves me you have to bring a mobile crane like that to a full stop before putting it in reverse due to built in safety features.

Wasn't there a song about this in the early/mid 90's by a band called Soul Asylum? Something like "Runaway crane never going back, lotsa men try to stop it like on crack"... Something like that,

Putting it in first gear would help a little. It would not be "under power" unless the ignition was on as a mistaken commenter said. Reverse gear is not possible in a manual transmittion when it is moving forward. Mythbusters tried this and couldn't do it.
