I think Japan is fascinated by the western culture, but gets it all wrong. They imitate it with natural excellence, because they are very skilled; but it's like a piano made by a deaf guy - it looks kinda ok, but it won't play, he didn't figure out the purpose of the mechanism and just skipped it, because who would notice?

rubbish. as if things didn't naturally change / evolve as they moved from place to place. as if everything that we now consider to be the standard didn't come from earlier components that nobody thought of putting together before.
