Peter "Pete" Burns is an English singer-songwriter, known for his work as frontman of dance band Dead or Alive, who achieved mainstream success in 1985 with their hit single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)". He was married twenty-five years to a woman but he’s now living with his husband Michael Simpson. Now he looks more like an old woman than a man…  Paul, the owner of this miracle on wheels, made it specially to go to the Burning Man festival in Nevada. It’s true that it is more comfortable to live in your own little “house” than in a tent. Everything in this house works on solar energy - the stove and water heating. Unfortunately, there was no place to squeeze a toilet in there but there is a urinal on one of the walls outside.  Burning Man is an eight-day annual event held in the Black Rock Desert, in Northern Nevada. It takes its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy on Saturday evening. The event is described by many participants as an experiment in community, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance. The event was open from the last Monday in August until Labor Day (August 31st to September 7th 2009, so yesterday). In 2008, 49,599 people participated in Burning Man, in 1986, it was only 20 people on a small beach in San Francisco… It is all about art, music and performance and this year, the theme was “Evolution”.  Some car owners witnessed a very unpleasant picture in Moscow when they went out of their apartments in the morning. Their cars were turned into a pile of useless metal. Who did this and why remains unknown, but one thing is is clear, those who did that have some big issues.  It happened in 1984 when Michael Jackson was filming a Pepsi commercial. His hair caught fire due to a spark caused by pyrotechnics while he was dancing and the worst is that he did not realize it until a little while. The accident caused second and third-degree burns on his scalp and body, and he had to make several surgeries. And the last important point in this story is that he started to take medicines after this accident, became addicted and never stopped taking them until his death.  They didn’t think this through…  It seems that a militant group has been formed in Berlin who’s burning luxury cars. Mercedes, BMW and Porsche owners are worried since these cars are targets for the group. There’s an assumption that this group has been formed because of economic recession and growing unemployment. I think they could find a better way to protest…  |
