Located in the French Bay of Arcachon and named the Great Dune of Pyla, this huge sand dune stretches three kilometers and reaches a height of 130 meters. By some estimates, it contains 60 million cubic meters of sand! Tourists and locals visit to climb to the top and experience what desert dwellers live with every single day.
These photos are from the World Championship of Sand Sculpting that took place from September 8 to October 3 in Federal Way, Wash..
British eco-pioneer Rishi Sowa began constructing his first Spiral Island in 1998. He used around 250,000 plastic bottles to build a 66x54ft (20x16m) island which was located in a lagoon near Puerto Aventuras, on the Caribbean coast of Mexico.Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed by Hurricane Emily in 2005, but not discouraged, he decided to build a new one: Spiral Island II!
Who would have thought that a human can turn sand into paint and draw incredible pictures? Kseniya Simonova from Ukraine creates images using sand, dramatic music, a big light box and her imagination. After she failed to run a business, Kseniya has been drawing sand pictures and has become a success - she's the winner of “2009 Ukraine’s Got Talent.”
The sand sculptures in these photos look so real it is difficult to believe that they were sculpted out of sand. Some are large and majestic and others are small and detailed. The one thing that they all have in common is that they are unbelievable.
I lack words to describe how great these sand sculptures are! Better see yourself!
Nowadays we can ‘print’ on everything – there are toast printers, coffee printers, 3D printers… and now there is the sand printer!
Let’s see how it works..
It may look like nothing on the first pic but it’s only to not reveal yet how amazing this sand sculpture is!
It’s really an impressive work, with so many details…
Be sure to check this out, it's worth it!
Yesterday morning, the inhabitants of Sydney could observe such a fantastic picture.
A powerful sandstorm struck Queensland and New South Wales in eastern Australia. This sandstorm is the strongest since 1940.
Sandy cloud was the densest in the entire history of observations of such phenomena.
Very beautiful and unusual photographs. Enjoy!
In fact, the Kopp-Etchells effect is a new name.
It was named after two soldiers who died in Afghanistan in July 2009. The Kopp-Etchells effect is a result of dust striking helicopter blades as they take off or land at night, causing a bright 'halo' effect around the spinning rotor disk.
So, if it happens at night, you can watch an amazing show.
Take a look at pictures.
On the first 20 photos are sand castles of Oregon Coast. The pictures were kindly sent to us by our visitor Rich Flint. Thanks a lot Rich.
If you have something to share, some interesting material, send it to us using this form, we will certainly publish it.
And now, sit back and enjoy this beauty. Lots of sand sculptures are waiting for you after the jump.
This amazing artwork is done by San Francisco artist Andres Amador.
He usually patiently waits for a full or new moon to be sure that low tides would prepare for him a perfect “canvas” to do his work.
Sadly enough, but within several hours these masterpieces are wiped out by the ocean…
Huacachina is a small lost paradise located in the desert of the Ica region, in south-western Peru. There are only 115 inhabitants (1999).
The particularity of this village is that it has been built around a small natural lake in the desert called the "Oasis of America.”
The two main activities in addition to swimming are sandboarding and taking dune buggy rides on sand dunes that stretch several hundred feet high.
Going on vacations in an oasis is rather cool and frankly, I would be glad to spend one week or two over there this summer!
It’s interesting to see that such a beauty lies in hostile environments as deserts. After the jump, you will see a selection of beautiful black and white photos of sand dunes.
One parking lot in Kiev was flooded during the night.
Water has brought a lot of sand and, therefore, in the morning, few people were able to take their cars. They had to dig them out first ...
This is the amount of sand which is needed for a sand-watch to work 87 years in a raw.
It made me sad actually. There’s little sand for 87 years, in my opinion.
Clearly, life is too short…
