Heather Grierson, 49, is the park director of the Kisma Wildlife Preserve in Mt Desert, Maine, USA. She loves animals and as the mother of Tica (the baby gibbon) proved unable to care for her baby, Heather is taking care for Tica 24/24 for 13 weeks.

Now they are always together and when Heather wants to go to the movies for example, well... she takes Tica with her and hopes the gibbon won’t be noticed. As the number of gibbons in the world decreased significantly over the years, it was unacceptable to lose a baby gibbon because its mother was unable to care for it, something that unfortunately happens often with this species. If they don’t have a permanent social contact as they grow up, gibbon babies can develop sever psychological problems, that’s why Tica will stay with Heather Grierson until its 6 months, before being reintroduced with other gibbons.

Gibbons are simply the best. Unfortunately, many people on the internet and elsewhere call them "monkeys". For example, a Youtube video trying to raise awareness of these endangered, important primates gets silly comments like this: "lol cute monkey!". Gibbons are APES who separated from the "great apes" around 17 million years ago. They need to be protected at any cost.
