It will work, just need a good drying, I am cleaning remote controlers in my house with that method all the time...

Indeed, furthering H-K's point. As long as there is no water present when you power up your phone after its been in the water there will be no problem with phone operation. Just make sure to dry is sufficiently, give it plenty of time to dry. If you are unsure, find an old cell phone that works and experiment.
