Lefcael,

There's no 14 or 24 either. I find this more interesting than the trick itself.

"in Japanese, the number 4 is literally means death (think 8 and "ate" in English.) Just as Western buildings usually don't have a 13th floor, Japanese numbering systems avoid any use of the number 4."

I dont know Japanese, but the same is with Chinese - 4 and death are pronounced the same (si) - in writing the two words are of course different. and 14 can be pronounced as ( one four - yao si) which can mean - want death.

Tried this a few months back when I heard this. It does not work on all elevators, as mine did not.

We used to use this 30 years ago when I worked for the phone company in a high-rise in Chicago. It worked great (then)!!! ... I've tried it all over the United States since and have never got gotten it to work again. The Fire Department (and Police?) use PASS KEYS to circumvent the system.

I've tried it many times since then in elevators all over the United States. IT DOESN'T WORK. The Fire Department uses pass keys. Sorry to burst you bubble guys ...
