Journalist David Gillanders and broadcaster Rasmus Paulsen visited Ukraine in February-March of 2010 to make a photo reportage on Ukrainian children living on the streets. They spent 2 weeks in Odessa in the circle of a small group of abandoned children.
In the south of Odessa, a small group of 7 children live in the basement of an apartment complex. The access there is only through the ventiduct, which is even small for the children and they have to squeeze through it. They managed to connect to the electrical panel of the building to have some light in the basement and to use their electric stove. To keep warm, they press against the pipeline, which runs hot water. All seven are infected with HIV and take drugs every day. To get some money these kids steal, beg and collect scrap metal.
Very sad..
