There are many reasons not to buy a Mac computer. I just never knew what they were before. Most all of them have to do with the cost but there are performance issues as well.

I have recently made the switch from windows to mac and I will never go back. Everything just works. Yeh its expensive, and you pay a premium, but its worth it. Sure I could buy it cheaper if I put it together myself (although I have no idea how I would build an imac myself...) but you pay other people to do things for you. Grow your own veggies, fix your own car, make your own wine and it will be cheaper than buying the service or product.

lol, stupidest arguments ever.

Yeah, it cost a lot of money: if you are poor, buy some cheap crap instead.
And if you think Apple charge too much for HD drives and ram, go buy it someplace else, nobody forces you to buy the upgrades from Apple.

The Mac Pro usually gives the most bang for your money compared to Dell and others who deliver computers with similar specs. Yeah, it's cheaper to build it yourself, but not much in the case of the Mac Pro.

why go on a debate about apple? there are two posts today about apple, and it's just stupid.. like the rest of the posters here said, NO ONE is forcing you to buy any apple products.. NO ONE.. so why post these?

i've been using Windows based PC since i was in high school.. when I decided to switch to get a Macbook Pro for my work, i was really amazed on its performance..

is it perfect? no. bcoz there's no such thing as a perfect system. i personally don't like how my macbook goes very hot when i watch youtube or play flash games (which is related to the flash plugin).. about the other products, i also dislike how the iPhone and iPad costs that much and decides not to include flash plugin to its systems..

but if you give these gadgets a shot and try them, you'll understand why they cost that way.. Macs are great for work related tasks (no system crashes and no viruses) and the iPhone is one of the best cellphone/internet/mp3-video-player/portable game gadget available on the market to date..

again, NO ONE is forcing you to buy these "overpriced" gadgets/pc.. if you don't like it, then so be it..

I absolutly HATE mac, but you sir are a moron. AMG TEH MAID ME PAY 1400 MOAW DOWAWS FOR 200MHZ!!! ever thought theres more to a processsor? because cache sizes and hyperlink speeds definatly dont make a difference, right?

I have mac laptop and it works better and smoother than any PC laptop I ever had. I dunno about desktops but apple laptops are better. I dunno much about computers so I'd rather spend more money and get good mac because I have no skills to build my own PC. If I had the skills, I probably would, so I wouldn't have to spend so much money but not everyone knows how to build a computer.

I am PC fan. I have iPC on it that works fine, I have Ubuntu, Windows 7 and Android 0.3 Beta. I worked on a mac for some years... But i still love the PC.

I agree with you. MAC OSX cost more, way more than Dell with some upgrade. But a MAC is EZ to used.. 5 years ago I paid $ 1799.00 for a Dell with tons of upgrade and Dell learning.. " My First Computer " After 2 days of trying to log in to Dell Learning, I call Dell for help. With their help I log in. Next day I can't log in call again and again. after 5 days of calling I gave up.. At the same time, My so call Dell Computer can't do anything, I call DELL for Help and DELL would not do anything to help fix my computer.. I call a service person to fix the computer..He found the Dell is broken and it will cost me $300.00 to repair my NEW DELL.. That I never had the chance to use.. In small print Dell claim we have 72 hours to return for a new Dell.. It took me 66 days for Dell to return my money.. With check in hand I went to APPLE Store.. For the same price for a Dell that don't work my Apple been work for 5 years..

you people don't even know of what you're talking about, i prefer a pc with windows 7, for work and gaming a mac is useless to me,...
and obviously there aren't many virus for mac os, just because of the market share % that windows holds... so obvious, people...
and yes, i agree, apple products are beautiful but way too overpriced, sure i could buy a mac, but i don't like to give away my money :P

people need to know they're paying WAY to much for a product! It's not worth it. I've had windows 7 since the day it came out, and it have never crashed, not had any viruses either, and i download A LOT of crap.. :) Android is also outselling the iphone, people are opening their eyes, finally. And all you apple fanboys out there, you cant really deny it's overpriced, thats a FACT! GOOD POST!

I have anything with an "i" in it. I'm in no way a mac fanboy.

But that graphic there misses the whole point. The monitors, for example, are IPS (if you don't know what that is, google). And they are goddam good. If you bought a 27" iMac, just the monitor would be worth it.

What that article also fails to mention is that you CAN upgrade your harddrive yourself, same with the RAM. Macs are closed systems but you do have some liberties. If you don't like the apple store, just buy it somewhere else.

Lastly, if you took a dell laptop and you compared it piece by piece to the equivalent apple laptop (and I mean with the same 1066Mhz ram and a "n" wireless card, for example) you'd save around 150 bucks on it.

That's the price you pay for the Mac OS X and it's ease of use and unix foundation.

On the other hand, if you buy anything with an "i" on it (pad, phone pod or whatever) you're an idiot.

Lol, I just screwed up.

The weak link with "viruses" on the PC has always been the idiot in the chair using the thing. Most of these people who can't seem to avoid viruses run off and buy a Mac due to it's insignificance in the market. By that logic my C64 is a better computer than your Mac because it's got even less viruses. WAY TO WIN!

Why overpay for hardware?

OS X is good addidion to your Windows and runs really good on standard PC =]
Stability / logical UI / big amount of official soft

It takes some time to install & configure but you do it only once... and then learn and start to enjoy :)

I love the argument that Mac's don't get viruses, it really shows the naivety of the general MAC owner demographic. Just wait; the storm is brewing. As market share increases, so does the viability of exploitation of that product. In other words, the more you buy and buy, the more appealing it will be for the people who write viruses and exploit vulnerabilities. Did you ever stop to think that maybe people don't write viruses because they are d*cks and maybe do it because they can sell the fix to Antivirus Company X? I assure you, this is done in high quantities, and MAC OS is only providing with a brand new playing field where consumers are so naive that they truly believe their computers are untouchable.

while the macbook pro is under 6% ..

Lets talk software.. Its based on a freaken UNIX model. if it you can't find a mac app then you can build one from source code.

I own a computer repair store and i do all my windows based repairs with my macbook pro..

If you buy a mac then you don't really need to upgrade. A mac can last for a long time... compare that to the amount of money you waste on virus protection, upgrading or buying a new pc. I have had my iMac for almost 4 years and it still runs the same!

Don't tell me that there is no virus for mac because people use mac less than PC's... there are millions of mac users and no one wants to exploit them? whatever. It seems like everyone copies Apple, so why all the hate? All this pro PC shit is getting old.

i am pretty amazed how a mac handles graphic softwares and multi tasking. it's so goddamn smooth on handling it. unfortunantely, i have only used a mac for 10 mins, because it wasnt mine. if i have the money, id buy myself a mac because im a graphic artist. i could calculate all the times that has been wasted from a windows crashing with my unsaved graphics work on it for about 3 years of time. so sad i could only afford a dual core pc. costs about 300$ all in all. but i love how a pc handle the games. so when i get rich, ill buy a super hardcore mac and a pc. :) that simple

This kind of stuff is IMPORTANT because as long as dumb people (the general consumer) keep buying overpriced crap it will be all these companies will ever make. By that I mean Apple and Microsoft alike, Apple because of its (WELL-KNOWN for god's sake) overpricing of average systems and Microsofts inefficient bloatware. So it's public service to let people know they're supporting companies that don't care about offering actual quality stuff.
In terms of bang for your buck, Linux still scores best, and not JUST because it's free.

I think the entire point of the article is that apple is overpricing their software and hardware for no apparent reason, other than the slick aesthetic. You know why you're buying a mac (dont give me that no-virus BS, the ease of operation BS, or any of that other stuff). You're buying a mac because it looks so good and because you dont have to sweat about making big decisions.

Im not hating on mac users, im hating on steve jobs for taking a perfectly useful and cheap computer and now making it cost over $1000 more than a better equipped laptop by Sony.

When you purchase a mac you are not buying a computer, you are buying lifestyle.
Apple wants you to sit in starbucks type on your mac and text on your iphone.
I do enjoy some features of macs, but the reason they are doing so well right
now is that computer literacy and competency are going down. The reason why I
stick with either Win7 or Linux is that they offer much more customization and
I occasionally program which is much much easier on either OS. I know you can throw
win7 on a mac, but why bother?

Physicists working on the LHC use PC's ftw.

Build your own machine, run Linux.

Cheaper than Mac and any Windows vendor. More stable OS than Windows, and just as good, if not better than Mac OS X.

Oh, and Linux is free.

for the person who says they dont get viruses thats completly wrong.... they dont get PC viruses.... but any computer can get malware. for anyone that uses a laptop for a business mac is good for the marketing software but if ur a kid in college doesnt need it for any of these fancy programs pc is the way to go
